10 Ways To Keep Your Life Stagnant

Simple list. Even I've done some of these things myself; some more often than others.

1. Get Drunk...By Yourself. There's nothing like the feeling of trying to escape your problems through alcohol. When you wake up from your coma, they'll still be there waiting for you. If there are others around you at the time, they may offer you some...eeek...advice! No one can reach you if you choose to be alone. Better to be your own shrink.

2. Blame Misfortune. Isn't it better attribute your standing in life to luck rather than to admit that what you've done in life may have had something to do with where you are in life? I mean come on, Bill Gates is rich because he's lucky, and poor people are poor because they're not.

3. Shy Away From Opportunity. That open door is just there to slam you in your ass, so why bother?

4. Only Look For Jobs. Your only source of income should come from working for someone else. Don't bother trying to figure out a way to be your own boss in life or to invest in things where your money works for you. Thinking about all the benefits that can come through a life of passive income is only for successful people. Why try for something that you are not capable of?

5. Stop Hoping and Keep Wishing. Wishing is passive. Hoping will mean that you may have to take some sort of action to achieve a goal. What could taking action do for your life?

6. Ruminate On The Past. Remember what you used to be like? Remember how your ex treated you? Remember the time you made a mistake that affected so and so in such and such a way? Keep doing this, and you'll be able to have hours of life pass you by today.

7. Criticize Others. Forget about the things that you can change about yourself. Focus your time and energy on what other people are doing in their lives. It's so much easier to judge others, and you can always walk away as soon as you see them getting upset. No harm done to you.

8. Surround Yourself With Equals. If your life is in the dumper, be careful to only choose others who are in the same boat as you. If you hang out with someone more successful than you, you'll feel worthless. Even worse, that successful person may offer to help you improve yourself. But you know what that means. Yep, work and responsibility. Don't aggravate yourself.

9. Don't Venture Beyond The "Triad of Safety" Zone. Make sure you're only traveling back and forth between the kitchen, the living room, and your bedroom. These places are safe and predictable. The fridge door handle is worn, there's an imprint of your ass in the sofa, and there's no need to make your bed since that's where you'll be in a few minutes anyway. Bathrooms are okay as long as it's on the way to one of the other safe places.

10. Stop As Soon As It Hurts. I was trying to come up with a 10th one, but my brain started hurting. So I'll stop now. Pain and discomfort might indicate some sort of change is about to occur, so look at it as some sort of warning or alarm.
Feel free to add anything I've missed.

Funny and true. The theme in this is to "look in the mirror" for what holds you back in life. Nice post!
P.S. I'm checking my couch for an imprint.

    Maureen,
Exactly! I'm sure there are tons of other things that hold people back in life. I just took a few from my own past as well as things I've noticed about others in my life. Thanks, and if you find an imprint on your couch, just turn the cushion over.
